March 24, 2010 (Wednesday)
<at Nakayama Race Course>
PENTIFFIC (NZL, g7, dark bay or brown)
- cantered up and down on straight (dirt course), schooled obstacle course and jumped 5 obstacles (No.1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
(exercised from 7:40 a.m. to 7:52 a.m., ridden by Trent Wells)
"Our jockey was very happy with how the horse handled the track and the way he jumped this morning. The surface is very good – nice length of grass and a bit of cushion – really safe and has a nice bit of give in the ground.
Until he was three, he was with another trainer and wasn’t racing well at all. When he came to us, he raced well at first (in flat races) but he lost interest. He was bored and wasn’t racing to his ability. So we sent him out to work with the jumpers and he just took to it – he loves it and he’s had an amazing first season winning three major Australian jump races.
I never had plans of jumping him in Australia this year because the ground is very hard at the moment and the jumps are different. It was better just to come and start fresh here. He’s had a long flat race right before coming to Japan, so his fitness is good.
Tomorrow we’ll do a little bit of fast work on the grass."
