TRAINING REPORT 29th running of the Japan Cup
Training Report of Foreign Entries
November 25, 2009 (Wednesday)
FOREIGN ENTRIES - JAPAN CUP
At Tokyo Racecourse
*The following comments are excerpts from quotes given by the connections and transcribed as faithfully to the original text as possible.
INTERPATATION (USA, g7. dark bay or brown)
- jogged 1 lap right-handed* (dirt course), schooled saddling and paddock area
(exercised from 7:27 to 7:34, ridden by Robert Sigouin)
*Tokyo Racecourse: left-handed
"We jogged lightly this morning. He came out to work good. He ate good and everything's fine. The trainer is arriving tonight, so what kind of work we do from tomorrow on depends on him. Probably we'll breeze him on the grass on Friday. The reason why we worked clockwise (right-handed) on the track this morning was because we always train him that way back home, and it was what our trainer asked us to do. I think he's tuned up to be in the same good form as he was right before winning the last race, the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic. We will probably do some faster work tomorrow, but how much faster depends on our trainer."

JUST AS WELL (USA, h6. dark bay or brown)
- jogged 1/2 lap, lightly cantered ~ gradually stronger 1/2 lap (dirt course), schooled saddling and paddock area
(exercised from 7:27 to 7:35, ridden by Barry Wiseman)
"He's in good condition. It was raining when we went out on the track this morning, but being in the rain is like being in the ocean-he can relax mentally. We will breeze him at around eight o'clock tomorrow morning on the grass. I'm not worried about the long stretch of the Tokyo course. We intend to get the feel of the turf course tomorrow. "

*The following three horses, completing their stay at the Shiroi International Quarantine Center, safely arrived at Tokyo Racecourse, Marsh Side at 12:00, and Conduit and Scintillo at 13:00 today. The following comments were taken from their connections upon arrival.
CONDUIT (IRE, c4. chestnut)
"We took him back from America to see how he was within himself, physically and mentally, and the boss thought we'd give him a shot at the Japan Cup. He's mentally strong and he takes everything in his stride, and he's improved with age. He's a quick recoverer-well you obviously lose a little bit of weight after you've traveled but he'd soon put it back on during his week at Shiroi and he's back to his old self.
He's versatile-he's got speed and he can stay-the stronger pace the better for him. Obviously the Japan Cup has about eight or nine G1 winners in it, so it's not going to be easy winning it.
(comments taken from Anthony Cromby)
SCINTILLO (GBR, c4. chestnut)
"The transport from Shiroi went very well and he's doing good. He will do canter on grass tomorrow and a little bit of work with the jockey, Gerald Mosse, on Friday."
(comments taken from Stephen Knight)
MARSH SIDE (USA, h6. dark bay or brown)
"There was no problem coming from Shiroi. He's eating well and is relaxed. I will be riding him when we breeze him tomorrow. Details will be decided by our trainer who will be here to see the horse later on."
