Japan Cup Dirt (G1) - America's Tizway arrives safely
Tizway
Tizway, one of two American contestants scheduled to run in the Grade 1 Japan Cup Dirt, arrived in Japan on Monday, completing a 15-hour trip from the United States.
The 4-year-old colt by Tiznow out of Bethany arrived at Narita Airport on Monday morning and was transported to the JRA Horseracing School Quarantine Stables.
"It was his first long-distance travel, but his condition seems to be OK," said groom Everardo Cambray. "As of now, I've been told by the trainer to only walk him tomorrow and check his condition."
Tizway, 3-for-11 in his two-year racing career, is trained by H. J. Bond and owned by William Clifton Jr. He finished third in his latest outing at the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes, a race which fellow Japan Cup Dirt participant Summer Bird won by a good three lengths. The two American horses will try to claim the Japan Cup Dirt title that has gone to the local Japanese horses since America's Fleetstreet Dancer won the race back in 2003.
The Japan Cup Dirt is the last leg of the four-race "Japan Autumn International" series and will be run over 1,800 meters at the right-handed Hanshin Racecourse.
