Breeders' Cup Classic added to list of designated races for Japan Cup bonus
The Japan Racing Association has announced that the "Breeders' Cup Classic" will be added in the list of designated races to qualify for the Japan Cup bonus. The Breeders' Cup Classic winner and runnerup in 2009, as well as the race's winner in 2008, will qualify for the bonus if it finishes higher than third in this year's Japan Cup.
With this announcement, the 2009 top two finishers and the 2008 winner in eight races - Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Breeders' Cup Turf, Breeders' Cup Classic, King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes, The Derby, The Irish Derby, Prix du Jockey Club, and Dubai Sheema Classic - will be eligible for the bonus.
For example, if the winner of the 2009 Breeders' Cup Classic also runs first in this year's Japan Cup, a 130 million yen (USD 1.368 million) bonus will be allocated along with the 250 million yen (USD 2.631 million) prize money. Please refer to the "Prize Money & Bonuses" graph for the Japan Cup for details.
This year's Japan Cup, one of the four "Japan Autumn International" series races, will have a total purse of 533.5 million yen (approximately USD 5.615 million). The race will be run over 2,400 meters at Tokyo Racecourse on Sunday, November 29.
