Super Hornet, the runnerup in the Grade 1 Mile Championship for two consecutive years, and three other Japanese-bred and trained horses have been selected to run in the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Races at Sha Tin Racecourse on Dec. 14.
Super Hornet, trained by Yoshito Yahagi and owned by Tokuo Morimoto, is scheduled to race in the Hong Kong Mile (Grade 1). The 5-year-old son of Rodrigo de Triano defeated Vodka - the 2008 Yasuda Kinen and Tenno Sho (Autumn) winner - in the Mainichi Okan (G2) before finishing second behind Blumenblatt in the Mile Championship. He has 9 wins and 3 runnerup finishes in 24 starts, with a career earning of over 433 million yen.
Jaguar Mail, the 4-year-old colt with only 9 career starts under his belt, will compete in the Hong Kong Vase over 2,400 meters. Trained by Noruyuki Hori, Jaguar Mail won three consecutive races from May before finishing second to Screen Hero - the winner of this year's Japan Cup - in the Copa Republica Argentina in November.
Laurel Guerreiro (4-year-old colt) and Tosho Courage (6-year-old horse) will run in the Hong Kong Sprint over 1,200 meters. Laurel Guerreiro, who suffered a bone fracture in the spring, came back strongly after a seven-month layoff to finish runnerup in the Mainichi Broadcast Swan Stakes (G2) and fifth in the Mile Championship. Tosho Courage, finishing sixth in this year's Sprinters Stakes (G1), came in second in his latest race, the Oro Cup.
