"He had his head up last week, but today he managed to keep it down. He was good today. He's calmed down with age, and I think the distance fits him. He runs from behind so (the draw) doesn't matter." |

"He was really sharp today. We decided to run him uphill because he worked out at the course on Sunday, and there's not a lot of time since his last race."
Christophe Lemaire
"I think the Tenno Sho was too short for him. He was very good at his workout. If he can relax for the first half of the trip, he will be fine. I'm not so sure about Vodka with the distance." |

"This is the best I've seen him since I began riding him. We're not going to fool anybody, and if the opportunity is there (to take the lead), we'll take it." |

"We had to push him today after (finishing eighth in the Kikuka Sho). He had lost the extra meat on him for the Kikuka Sho, but he's much sharper this time. There's no question it's a strong field. But you just never know in this game until it all kicks off."
Hiroshi Kitamura
"We had a good draw; it's a really good barrier for him. We're at Tokyo this time, so hopefully, I can help him run his best race." |

"This is what we've been working for all long. We want him going all out now."
Hirofumi Shii
"He worked out hard last week so we just wanted to check on her finish this week. The more he runs, the better he gets. He is without question in better shape since the last race. He didn't back down in his last race, and we came awfully close. We'll find out this time how good he really is compared to (Vodka and Daiwa Scarlet). He's a fighter and has given me so much hope. At this level, you're not going to fool anybody. If Deep Sky is in rhythm, then winning becomes very real."

"I'm not worried about (running lefthanded). He was fine at Chukyo, and I don't see it being a problem. He looked smooth running lefthanded, and as long as he runs his race, it doesn't matter which way he turns if you ask me. (As Arima Kinen champion), we couldn't afford to lose the last race. We've got a spectacular field this time, and everything's gone according to plan so far. I hope he leaves everything he has out there."
Masayoshi Ebina
"He was far more relaxed today than last week. He's in very good condition; he's at a point where he's so good that if he can't win now, he'll never win. He was missing something last week. His footwork was a bit clumsy. But today he handled the turn real well, and he wasn't forcing anything."

"He's not tired. If anything, I think he's grown as a racehorse. I think he's complete now. I'm expecting a lot, maybe show us something he's never shown us before."
Mamoru Ishibashi
"It's been a while, but he moves great as always. But I think he's more mature now, and maybe sharper than he used to be. I never thought I'd get the opportunity to ride him again. I just want to thank the owner and the trainer for giving me the chance. I feel responsible."

"We should've had this workout a week ago. But I suppose it's not that bad because the jockey was here and the course was in fine shape. Plus, we haven't overworked him one bit since the last race. I think he's in for a good race if he's like this on race day. Most stayers need a few races before hitting top form. It's hard to win that first race after a break."
Norihiro Yokoyama
"He isn't entering this race for nothing."

"He just doesn't want to run if the surface is bad. But his breathing was good, and while he may have looked like he was maxed out, he wasn't. He has a few more gears. The jockey told me he thinks he's good lefthanded. We couldn't enter him in the Derby, and even though we're up against some tough horses, I'm excited to see how he can do." |

"He took it easy after the last race, so we worked him out hard today. There's a lot of energy to him."
Jun Sato (assistant trainer)
"He goes from behind so I wasn't worried about the draw. I suppose an even number didn't hurt, but the pace is everything with this horse. I just hope it suits him."

"She was ready last week when (Yasunari) Iwata rode her, so we didn't want to flick the switch just yet. We just wanted to see how she was responding, and kept her under control. She was calm and saving herself. We liked what we saw. She can run as well as she did in the Tenno Sho (Autumn)."
Hiroaki Kiyoyama (assistant trainer)
"It worries me when everyone asks me if she's feeling it after the race. But she's in the same form as she was for the Tenno Sho (Autumn)."
Yasunari Iwata
"Everything will come down to rhythm. The Yasuda Kinen is at 1,600 meters and this time it's 2,400 meters. Very different, and I need to watch out for that. She responded really well last week, just dynamic. I thought she was in excellent form. Her breathing was good, and I know we have something special here. I'm not thinking about positioning at all; I'll decide that once we're off but the key is to get through the first two turns without running into any trouble. It's such a privilege to be riding this horse, and hopefully she can win another title."
