Three contenders for the Yasuda Kinen from Hong Kong, including Champions Mile winner Good Ba Ba, arrived safely at Narita Airport on Wednesday, May 28. Good Ba Ba arrived with Armada and Bullish Luck, which finished second and third, respectively, in the Champions Mile held in April. All three horses landed at 6:15 a.m. and was transported to the Quarantine Center in Shiroi City, where they will prepare for the Grade 1 Yasuda Kinen to be held on June 8 at Tokyo Racecourse. If he wins the Yasuda Kinen, Good Ba Ba will collect a bonus of US$1 million for his second Asian Mile Challenge victory having been so impressive in capturing the Champions Mile, the series' third leg at Sha Tin, on April 27. Victory in both races will amount to earnings of approximately US$2.43 million. The son of Lear Fan out of Elle Meme, Good Ba Ba is trained by Andreas Schutz and owned by Se Kit Yuen. The 6-year-old gelding will likely be one of the favorites going into the Yasuda Kinen. Bullish Luck will be aiming for his second Yasuda Kinen title, having won the race in 2006 and collecting the same US$1 million bonus that Good Ba Ba will be aiming for this year. The 9-year-old gelding is the son of Royal Academy out of Wild Vintage. Armada, a 7-year-old gelding born in New Zealand, is trained by John Size and owned by Yuk Lun Wong. |
