Training Report of Foreign Entries
March 20, 2006 (Monday)
Among the 4 entries to the above races, the following 3 horses were transported from the Shiroi Quarantine Facilities, leaving at 10:40 this morning, arriving safely at the International Stables of Nakayama Race Course at 11:46. The comments of the connections upon arrival are as follows;
<at Nakayama Race Course>
KARASI (IRE, g11. bay)
"As he was last year, his condition is quite steady. He ran 5 flat races before coming to Japan."
"The style of steeplechase racing here is different from what we are accustomed to back home, so we're hoping to get the feel of things at the Pegasus Stakes and become fully prepared for the Nakayama Grand Jump."
"His training will be the same as Merlos'. We will do some jumps on Wednesday and gallop him on Thursday."

MERLOS (NZ, g9. chestnut)
"Since arriving here in Japan, his back muscles were a bit stiff for 2 or 3 days, but it's calmed down and he is adjusting as planned."
"His enormous appetite lets him gain weight easily. This morning he weighed 10 kg's more than what he weighed at the quarantine stables on March 15th (474kg)."
"This morning's training was a bit strong, so we'll keep things light for him tomorrow. We intend to do some jumps on Wednesday and Craig Durden, the jockey will gallop him on Thursday."

FONTERA (NZ, g8. bay)
"He weighed 532 kg's this morning. The horse was very calm throughout the transportation from the quarantine stables to the race course."
"Fontera's jockey, Isaac Lupton will be arriving tonight, so he'll probably be doing some light work tomorrow."
