Tawqeet brings BMW Caulfield Cup glory for Hayes and Dunn

A crowd of 47,551, the third highest attendance at Caulfield in 31 years, saw imported five-year-old stallion Tawqeet win the $2,515,000 BMW Caulfield Cup on Saturday, 21 October 2006, under a magnificent ride from jockey Dwayne Dunn.

Dunn weaved Tawqeet through an inside opening in the main straight and powered to an exciting victory, providing trainer David Hayes with a second success in the Melbourne Racing Club's premier Group One event, following his earlier win with Fraar in 1993.

Starting at tote odds of $17, Tawqeet defeated Aqua D'Amore ($31) by a long neck, with Japanese outsider *Delta Blues ($81) a half length adrift in third position. Race favourite Sphenophyta ($4.40) finished fifth.
