RESULT OF THE 51ST KEIO HAI SPRING CUP (GII)

Card & Results

Last year's runner-up and this year's third favorite OREWA MATTERUZE won this year's KEIO HAI SPRING CUP to claim his second grade-race win, following his grade-one victory in his previous race, the Takamatsunomiya Kinen. Fifth pick INCENTIVE GUY came in second, followed by second favorite TELEGNOSIS who had also finished third in last year's race.

The race broke well with 9th pick LOHENGRIN immediately taking the lead, but OREWA MATTERUZE saved ground to stalk the leader and eventually took the front before the first corner. TELEGNOSIS and INCENTIVE GUY trailed in the very rear and second from the rear, respectively. As the field turned for home, OREWA MATTERUZE stretched well and easily maintained its lead in the homestretch to win the race. INCENTIVE GUY, threading through horses in the beginning of the homestretch, broke free from the pack at the 200-meter line and chased the leader, crossing the wire 2 lengths behind. TELEGNOSIS, steering to the outside after the last corner, exerted a magnificent kick in the homestretch and closed in on the leaders to finish 1-1/4 lengths behind the runner-up.
