RESULTS OF THE 54TH HANSHIN DAISHOTEN (GII)

Last year's Horse of the Year and Best Three-Year-Old Colt, DEEP IMPACT claimed the 54th running of the HANSHIN DAISHOTEN by a comfortable 3-1/2 lengths to claim his 6th grade-race victory.
The race broke off with 5th pick TOKAI TRICK making a smooth break to set the pace, followed by 3rd choice INTI RAIMI. Second choice DELTA BLUES saved ground to race in third position while DEEP IMPACT settled second from last. The field of nine stretched into a long line through the first lap with TOKAI TRICK dominating the lead by 5-6 lengths. DEEP IMPACT gradually improved its position in the second lap but was still 15 lengths behind the frontrunner at the end of the backstretch when Yutaka Take urged his mount to make a move. Overtaking the rest of the field through the last two corners, DEEP IMPACT immediately took the front in the homestretch and easily ran off to a 3-1/2-length victory. Frontrunner TOKAI TRICK held on well, exerting his last ounce of strength in the homestretch to finish second. DELTA BLUES who traveled in third position throughout the race also held on well in the final stretch to cross the wire 4 lengths behind TOKAI TRICK.
