RESULT OF THE 99TH KYOTO KINEN (JPN GII)
Race favorite SIX SENSE partnered with Yutaka Take won this year's KYOTO KINEN by a nose. The colt claimed his first grade-race victory in his tenth grade-race challenge, which includes his previous runner-up effort in the Hong Kong Vase (GI: 2,400m) last December.
The race broke off with TAGANO MY BACH taking the lead to set the pace, followed by BIG GOLD a length behind, then SILK FAMOUS and MARBLE CHIEF running side by side another 2-3 lengths behind. SIX SENSE settled in mid-pack by the rail while second favorite SAKURA CENTURY trailed in the rear.
As SAKURA CENTURY traveled wide through the last two corners to make a move, SIX SENSE was left running in the very rear at the head of the homestretch. However, responding well to the urgings of Take, SIX SENSE exploded from the rear and stalked right behind SAKURA CENTURY, overtaking several horses on the way, until just before the wire, where the colt nodded his head forward for a nose-victory. Seventh pick MARBLE CHIEF who overtook the front at the beginning of the homestretch held on well until the end but was beaten just before the goal to a third-place finish.
