THE 8TH FUJI STAKES (GIII)
WIN RADIUS, third favorite of the race, partnered with K. Tanaka won this year's FUJI STAKES to claim his third group-race victory (incl. one GII and two GIII races).
Eleventh pick TANINO MARTINI broke well and saved ground to take a one-length lead but eventually eased back and tracked behind frontrunner NISHINO SHITAN until the last corner. Meanwhile, WIN RADIUS settled in mid-pack around 7th position with race favorite KINETICS running close behind on the outside. As the field spread wide turning for home, K. Tanaka steered WIN RADIUS to the outside and broke out of the pack with TANINO MARTINI on the inside. The two horses rallied fiercely in the final furlong and WIN RADIUS nosed out 100 meters before the goal to finish 3/4 length in front. KINETICS also exerted late speed but was a neck short to finish third.
