THE 40th KYOTO DAISHOTEN (GII)

BIG GOLD rushed for the early lead while SOUTHERN TWISTER, MARBLE CHIEF, MY SOLE SOUND, and COIN TOSS spread wide to chase the pace. Under the skillful hands of Yutaka Take, heavy favorite LINCOLN was rated between rivals in sixth position while FAST TATEYAMA was reserved a couple of lengths behind LINCOLN. BIG GOLD continued to dictate the pace by three lengths along the backstretch as the rest of the field formed a long file led by COIN TOSS and MY SOLE SOUND, and held on well to maintain his lead as the field closed in around the turn for home. COIN TOSS drew even with the leader and took command before the furlong pole while LINCOLN who had advanced to third position coming wide around the final turn surged forward for the attack. LINCOLN won out the fierce duel with COIN TOSS to claim his second grade-race title by 1/2-lengths while FAST TATEYAMA displayed an explosive late run to finish third.
